Blessed solemnity of Saint Joseph, Spouse of the Virgin Mary from CAPPA!
Saint Joseph, Spouse of the Mother of God, Guardian of the Redeemer, Head of the Holy Family, pray for us. Your protection was best demonstrated not in physical battle but in the trials of uprooting the Holy Family to bring yourselves to a place of safety in obedience to the Father. By your detachment from all earthly goods, you were free to respond to God’s instructions and dedicate yourself entirely to the Holy Family.
Saint Joseph, model of workers, support in difficulties, hope of the sick, patron of the afflicted, patron of the dying, pray for us. We who labor in health care seek your intercession to strengthen us in the demands of caring for the sick and the moral difficulties that unavoidably arise in our work. Help us, and seek for us the grace to always physically, spiritually, and psychologically care for our patients, bringing comfort even when we cannot heal.
Saint Joseph, Protector of Holy Church, pray for us. With Christ as the head and the Church as His body, intercede for CAPPA, its members, and all Catholic health care workers that we may be a powerful witness to the beauty and goodness of Human Dignity as revealed by the Incarnation of Christ, that it may become the central tenet of all societies.
CAPPA is thankful for our members, their families, and the patients we serve.
For this beautiful solemnity, after completing the Novena to Saint Joseph, I want to share with you a poem by Sister Mary Ada, OSJ. How wonderfully does the imagery call to mind the final prayers of the novena invoking Saint Joseph as the Patron of a Happy Death. The poem is commonly associated with the Easter Vigil, and you will see why.
